Today’s episode is the final part of a series of conversations with my ayurvedic teacher Dr. Bhaswati. If you haven’t listened to our first two conversations, I’d go back and listen to those before you tune into this conversation, so you’ll have the proper context. As many of you already know, Dr. Bhaswati is so incredible. I’ve been studying with her at the Dinacharya Institute through the Dinacharya master classes for about four years now. She is a biomedical scientist, international health specialist, primary care physician and holistic healer. She has a masters in neuroscience and pharmacology from Columbia University, a masters in International Public Health from Harvard University, and a doctorate from Rush Medical College. She’s a Fulbright Scholar. She was the the only Indian and the second woman in history to be selected as the Commencement Graduate Orator at Harvard University in 1993. Dr. Bhaswati is also the author of “Everyday Ayurveda” which outlines the daily habits that support health and well-being (known in Sanskrit as Dinacharya). I love talking to Dr. Bhaswati so much that I had her on three episodes! I just can’t get enough of her.

In this conversation, we discuss the final elements of Dinacharya: abhyangha (which is known as self-massage) - when to do it, where to do it, how to do it and when to not do it, what to do in a sauna to protect your brain, what a low fat diet does to our bodies, how our innate knowledge and understanding of nature has been taken away from us, why we need to be in nature to be healthy and well, the importance and components of ratricharya (which is the evening routine), and the most important step people can take for those who are struggling with their nightly routines.

“The innate knowledge…the innate understanding of our connection to nature has been systematically taken aware from us.”

“If you think you’re more powerful than the earth spinning - good luck to you.”

“If we see ourselves as small and humble and just here to learn and contribute, people find immeasurable joy.”
